Sisters 4 Hope Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization headquartered in Desoto, TX., that was founded in 2020. Our mission statement is to provide a second chance to at-risk women facing homelessness, who are victims of domestic violence, youth aging out of the foster care system, and female veterans with resources, advocacy, and long-term sanctuary; so, they can become self-sufficient and safe from harm. The Emergency Service Manager (ESM) will have overall responsibility for the Adult / Family Shelter, Shelter Case Management, and the Call Center. The ESM will manage the fast-paced day to day activities of the Adult/Family Shelter, Shelter Case Management and the Call Center which involves creating and managing program content and initiatives; responding to the needs of individuals or families who are experiencing homelessness found in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by facilitating emergency shelter placement and ensuring clients are connected to community, income, vocational and housing resources. Regular interaction with Agency Administration is expected to provide program updates and report on the state of the program. The ESM will work with coworkers, supervisors, and staff from other departments to solve problems and to improve processes and services. The ideal candidate must have full working knowledge of all Adult/Family Shelter, Call Center and Case Management policy and procedures as well as the Texas Health and Human Services regulations and ensures all Shelter programs are in compliance. This position is responsible for being on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide leadership, supervision, and direct support to the Shelter Program Team. The ESM will support, implement, and promote the Agency’s Vision, Mission, and Credo. Must be flexible with schedule to meet the needs of the program / regulatory requirements and the clients which will include some evenings and weekends.

Qualities We Are Looking For:

  • A Hands-on Manager – Willing to jump in to assist with the daily tasks if needed to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience (minimum 2 years).
  • Must be willing to work two split shifts (1:00 – 9:00 pm) per week.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced individual emergency overnight shelter.
  • Ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work with residents, staff, and support agencies.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and direct support to the shelter program team
  • Schedule direct care staff and assign duties to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the program at all times.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, other Agencies, and the public.
  • High integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for Sister 4 Hope’s mission.
  • Detail-oriented and have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills (friendly, courteous, helpful, ability to work as part of a team).
  • Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility. You should be able to use diplomacy and tact when dealing with and interacting with others, have the ability to diffuse tension while fostering collegial and cooperative attitudes, and works effectively to achieve common goals.
  • Have strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, and coaching a strong team of staff.
  • Ensure implementation of daily operating procedures, safety protocols, and administrative functions for program activities.
  • Monitor supply inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Create and maintain a calendar of food and meal preparation; managing volunteers and staff to ensure timely and appropriate meal preparation.
  • Monitor physical facility repair needs and safety concerns and address any concerns in a timely manner according to protocols.
  • Maintain an accurate log of shift activities including incident reports, infractions of shelter rules, and serious incident reports. Meet with Overnight Security to give reports and share any concerns.
  • Contact the appropriate agencies in the event of an emergency.
  • Complete and file reports with the executive team, as necessary.
  • Assist shelter guests to connect with needed community, income, and housing resources.
  • Ensure timely referral, screening, intake process for shelter guests, and maintain up-to-date information in the electronic information system.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies and shelter volunteers.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation as scheduled, responding to emergencies and requests for immediate consultation from shelter staff, which may include facility-related emergencies.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s preferred) with 3 years experience in Human Services/Social Work. Official transcripts required.
  • Experience working with low-income households.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience (3 years preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English (Bi-lingual is a plus).
  • Strong communication, written, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Experience with MS Office, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work 2 split shifts (1-9 pm) per week.
  • Must have or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Must undergo the Criminal background check upon hiring and annually thereafter.
  • Must be able to physically walk up several flights of stairs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have a full working knowledge of Texas Health and Human Services.
